Elephant ear seed pods

I purchased a small Alocasia at a yard sale 3 months ago. The pot size was about 1 gallon, with 1 full leaf showing.

It has grown by a foot since I planted it, in a mostly shady area, with plenty of good soil. Yesterday, I noticed 2 seed pods growing. From what I’ve read, this is rare, especially on such a young plant.

Any information on what to do with the seed pods and how to care for them would be wonderful! I can’t find much about them on the internet.

I live in Tampa, Florida. This year has been extra rainy, when it doesn’t rain, we water the yard with an irrigation system.

Comments for I think my Elephant ear is pregnant.

You should be very proud!

So, whatever you’re doing is obviously the right thing. Most plants need certain conditions to flower, or conversely, lots of stress.

I don’t know if this would be the actual seed pod (indicating that at some time, it flowered and was pollinated) or the flower itself just beginning. It will be interesting to see what happens with it.

You say, How to care for them (the seed pods). What do you want to do? Propagate the seeds? Or something else?

More about this plant here on Wikipedia.
