i just bought this new friend at meijer today. i’m new to succulents and loving them more every day. the label simply said “echeveria” and, so far, i haven’t found any species photos that seem to match.

unfortunately, because i’ve owned it for about three hours now, i can’t tell you anything about the flowers. any ideas?

Drought Smart Plants reply:
No, three hours isn’t quite long enough for it to bloom!

I’m almost wondering if this is an Echeveria at all – box store suppliers are notorious for mis labeling the plants they send, which explains a lot. I think this could actually be an Aeonium, but I’m not 100% sure. It does give you another thing to check out though.

Fortunately, whether Echeveria or Aeonium, they require similar care; allow the soil to dry out almost completely before watering again, and use tepid water. After a while, if it does bloom, that will be the give away, as Echeveria blooms are little orange, pink or peach coloured bells hanging from a long spray, and Aeonium will be a large chunky plume of yellow flowers, after which the rosette will die off.

I’ll be interested to know if you find out what it is, anyway.
