This plant is large the “leaves” are longer than a foot and tubular and stiff with a spine at the end. I haven’t seen it bloom. The liquid inside the leaves causes the skin to break out.
Drought Smart Plants reply:
Hi Andrea – well, there are a few things this plant could be – based on your description of a spine at the end of every leaf, I’m leaning towards some type of Agave, as this is a typical trait.
As there is some type of contact dermatitis thing happening if the leaves are broken open, combined with the fact that this plant is really sad and unhappy in its situation, maybe it’s time to retire it and get some more friendly type of plant for your office. Sorry, it needed to be said!
Fortunately, there are plenty of other great plants to choose from that will stay in bounds and not get gangly and leggy with the poor lighting and other adverse conditions, and also be a little less defensive about their space.
Happy Indoor Gardening!

Based upon your information, I was able to find out that you were correct. It’s called the AGAVE STRICTA. Here’s a link to a page on this plant:
Again, thank you!
