I would like to learn more about this trailing plant.
It has a variegated leaf, trails over the pot and has a pink flower.
Hi Wendy, this is a great little plant. I’ve tracked it down for you with some information, as I have no personal experience with it.
This page on Dave’s Garden Website has some information on this plant, which is known as Heartleaf Ice Plant, Heart Leaf Ice Plant, Baby Sunrose, and also the correct botanical name of Aptenia cordifolia ‘Variegata’.
This page has more about the non-variegated form, and more growing tips and interesting anecdotes about it.

Great ground cover

This succulent is a fast growing ground cover. Loves the sun and doesn’t need much watering. Couldn’t be easier to propagate either; just snip a bit off and re-plant it!
Looks good on a vertical garden or overhanging a pot/bowl.

I have a plant that I purchased at a department store this spring that was part of variety plantar.
The names of the plants were not listed.
I am looking for the name of the green and white plant, not the silver one.
The other plants in the container have since died but this variegated one grew very well.
It is short and compact.
It contains green and white almost rubbery leaves and it has mini hot pink flowers.
It grew very well in the heat.
I have searched and have not been able to find anything like it. Please help!

Jacki~Thank you so much for identifying my plant for me. I have searched for about a month trying to find out its name. It is a wonderful little plant that I will continue to use in baskets in the summer. I can’t plant it as a ground cover, as it would never survive our winters here. I have brought it in the house and transplanted it and hope to keep it alive until next summer! Thanks again for all your help. It is greatly appreciated!

Beautiful plant

The leaves are succulent (so it seemed) and sort of thick; they were green with some white in them and had very small dark red flowers – almost brush like flowers – it looked very sturdy.
Hi Witchhazel, this is a cute little plant called Aptenia cordifolia – there is also a plain green non-variegated type, but the one with the white streaks is really pretty.
These little guys make a great hanging basket if they have several cuttings in the basket, and once they get long enough to trail, those hot pink blooms open.

Roadside Greenhouse Succulent
I bought this at a roadside greenhouse in the Hudson Valley. This succulent has bright green leaves, small bright red flowers and a trailing habit. I don’t know what it is; I would like to get more!

Based on the flower type (daisy like) and the leaves without a discernible mid rib, this could be one of the many Mesembryanthemum family that are grown as annuals for hanging baskets and summer displays. Native to South Africa, they are drought resistant, and sun loving, with bright flowers to attract pollinators. The blooms mostly close at night or on cloudy days.
This one looks like Aptenia cordifolia, the heartleaf ice plant or this one Aptenia cordifolia ‘Red Apple’.
I’m not sure what your climate zone is where you are, but it looks as though it could be winter hardy even in places that get a really light frost – that would be perfect for getting a head start on your hanging baskets.

I have the same plant, it was the only one in the nursery. It is just georgous!!! and requires little care other than regular watering and a sunny spot.
It is doing so well in our drought like conditions this summer.
I am going to see if it will winter over in my solarium.

Same plant

I have the same plant it is winter hardy and a year rounder. I was deployed for 9 months and it struggled it is now full and beautiful again but is not flowering any suggestions?

Mr. Green Jeans, these plants most likely have a flowering season (if I could pin down exactly what it is I could tell you what that is) but generally, plants will go through a vegetative growth stage (which it sounds like yours is doing) and in the next couple of months, with the right conditions, it will start to flower again.
You don’t say where you are, but if it’s warm and bright where you grow the plant, that should trigger it. Good luck!

Aptenia plant

My plant was growing beautiful in water, once I planting on a pot almost all the plant died. It been 4 years with 3 little miniature plants and NOT growing at all.. what can I do???
