We bought this plant up from Kroger or Meijer, I cant remember which one.
It flowers pink, and has thin jagged leaves.
It is currently growing light green shoots.
Sorry for the bad photo quality: I used my webcam!
Hi Drew – the quality is pretty bad, but I can still recognize this plant.
There are several different genera, but they all have similar characteristics and requirements.
The most common of these Christmas Cactus or Holiday Cactus is Schlumbergera.
They are all epiphytes, which just means they have perfectly adapted to growing high in trees where they get bright but filtered light, frequent rainshowers, and perfect drainage. It also explains their preference to compost based soil, because they grow in the debris that trees drop; twigs, leaves and other organic matter.
Hope that helps identify your plant.
