Hi,

I received this plant as a gift a few years ago. I’ve been trying to identify it for a long time, without much success. For the first time this year, flowers started to bloom! I feel as though this is my chance to finally identify the plant.

Ps: The plant is currently on my balcony, where it’s sunny from morning til beginning of afternoon.

Adenium
by: Jacki

The flowers are a dead giveaway – that ombre look, with the paler center is a key characteristic of this genus when it blooms.

I don’t know a lot about this plant, but you seem to have hit on exactly the right conditions to get it to bloom.

This is Adenium obesum or Desert Rose. The trunk or stem will get huge with age, which is why this plant is known as caudiciform. Because of this trait, the plant is often grown as a bonsai, and aged specimens can sell for exorbitant amounts to collectors.
