it was about 30cms high, the stem was red and white. I think it cam in some mulch that was delivered here. its had a flower for 2 months, now theres no sign of it, no root structure or anything.
Well, that is bar none, the weirdest looking plant. I have no idea what it is.
Hmm. I’m going to say it’s a saphrophyte, which are plants that live on decaying organic matter, judging from the look of it – it’s almost like a mushroom, which are also saphrophytes.
Leave it with me, and I’ll see if I can find out for you. Hang in there!

missing succulent
by: Gill Allardice
Thanks for your interest in my plant It really was beautiful and I feel that it has been stolen ,I’ve dug, down deep in case there was some type of,, root but I appreciate anything you can tell me.Even if it was a fungi or whatever there would surely have been evidence other than photo of its existence,Thanks Gill
Some saphrophytes really don’t have roots like other plants; mushrooms and toadstools have mycelae or hyphae, which are just threads, and then the ‘fruiting body’ (the top part) emerges from those. Interesting. I have some feelers out, so hopefully we can figure it out. Hopefully it wasn’t stolen, it’s just biding its time until the conditions are exactly right for it to emerge again.

Is that what you have, Gill? Thanks to ShadyH, it’s now solved, if it’s the same thing.
