Graptopetalum
by: Jacki

Hi Christine, your friends plant is one of the Graptopetalum group – there are several that all appear similar, and tend to have this feature of shedding their lower leaves. This leaves a long bare stem and several opportunities to propagate the top rosette by beheading it, then new shoots will emerge from the bare stem below it and make a nice bushy new plant.

Unique Plants
by: Roxanne

Christine, these plants look like something out of the movie “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. But not in a bad way. I guess they look cartoonish to me. Very unique!

Its a sad Graptopetalum paraguayensis
by: cereusly steve

Graptopelaum paraguayensis is not supposed to look like “asparagus”. Your plant has been badly mistreated and has dropped most of the leaves and the new growth is stunted. It should be given more light (not direct sunlight) and placed somewhere people and animals will not brush up against it.

Unfortunately
by: Jacki

Sadly, more light won’t save a plant that looks like this. They would need to be beheaded and re-rooted to have a chance at normal life.
